Masters programs and their TOEFL floors, 0-120 scale:
- Top US programs: 100+. Ivy-level often 105-110.
- Standard US masters: 79-90. The most common band by far.
- UK masters: 88-100 typical, clustering at the IELTS 6.5 equivalent.
- Canada: 86-100 for most graduate programs.
- German English-taught masters: 80-95.
- Australia: 79+ for most coursework masters.
The sectional trap: a 95 overall with 20 in speaking fails programs demanding 23+ in speaking. Check section minimums, not just the total. Since January 2026 TOEFL also reports 1-6 bands, but universities still think in 0-120, so quote the scale they use.
